ELEVEN SPORTS’ OTT service in Italy has won the Best Sports Web TV Award at the 7th edition of the Italian Sport Awards.
Covering the 2016/17 season and voted for by Italian sports journalists and industry professionals, this is the fourth consecutive year that ELEVEN SPORTS (formerly Sportube) has won the award.
The platforms success during the 2016/17 season was built on the production and distribution of 1,287 games from Italy’s third tier football league – Serie C – creating national interest in a championship that had previously only been distributed locally. This offer was made possible by the implementation of innovative technical infrastructure that enabled vastly reduced production costs while keeping up a high-quality service.
“It is a great honour to win this award and we are very proud of our talented and dedicated team in Italy,” said Danny Menken, Group Managing Director, ELEVEN SPORTS. “This is evidence that our innovative strategy to meet unserved consumer demand with second tier rights such as Serie C football continues to be successful. We are looking forward to building on our success in what is shaping up to be a very exciting 2018.”
Italy became ELEVEN SPORTS’ seventh market when the company acquired national OTT platform Sportube in May 2017. In September this year, ELEVEN acquired LIVE Serie A matches in Italy building on the platforms success in the market which has steadily grown through the production and delivery of Serie C games.
Other rights currently carried on the platform include LIVE coverage of the top Volleyball League, Lega Volley Serie A; Italy’s top waterpolo league; domestic and international fencing; Italy’s 162 team amateur football leagues; the Italian Badminton Championship and a wide offering of motorsport including Superbike, Motocross, Enduro, Italian Rally Championship and the Campionato italiano di velocità – Italy’s premier motorcycle championship.
